to Vancouver
Back in 1993, there weren’t shops in Vancouver doing proper fades.
Salon Supreme helped pioneer that culture in East Van and became part of the city’s barbering
legacy.
Now a new generation is carrying it forward. Brian, a UBC student barber, joined in 2025. Blending old school
foundation with modern precision cutting, while
documenting the journey of rebuilding one of Vancouver’s original fade shops.
THE BEGINNING
When Salon Supreme first opened its doors, Vancouver barely had any shops specializing in fades or textured hair. The shop helped bring that culture to the city — redefining the classic cut and helping shape a new era of barbering in East Van.
THE GOLDEN ERA
Supreme became more than a barbershop. Exactly like the movie Barbershop — people would spend the whole day just to hang, talk, and be themselves. A community living room with clippers. The hotspot.
HOLDING IT DOWN
Dougie held it down through three decades. From neighborhood classic to Vancouver institution. The steady hands that never stopped cutting.
A NEW WAVE
Brian joins the chair. Modern scissor precision meets old school clipper mastery. Same philosophy — every cut is tailored. The mission: continue the legacy of Supreme and bring a new generation through the door.
